The Outback

Day 1

After departing Adelaide, we head north to the magnificent “Southern & Central Flinders Ranges” exploring the historic townships of Melrose and Quorn. Bushwalk, photograph and explore the Alligator Gorge National Park. Take a camel safari to a Campfire dinner, surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery and an abundance of native flora and fauna

Day 2

This morning we leave the beauty of the Flinders Ranges and travel north to the “Outback” of South Australia. Our first stop is the iconic Rocket/ Satellite launching town of Woomera. Here we visit the outdoor defence museum which presents an extraordinary display of rockets, missiles and aircraft that have been tested at the Range. In the afternoon, we arrive at Coober Pedy in time for an underground mine tour and opal cutting display. There will be time to explore the unique “Opal Capital of the world”. Meet the locals, and explore the underground houses and church.

Day 3

Travelling further north into the deserts of Central Australia, we cross the Dingo Fence and stop at the South Australian/Northern Territory boarder for a unique photo opportunity. Arrive at Uluru / Ayers Rock in time to marvel at the amazing sunset. A truly memorable once in a life time experience. Accommodation: Campground Swags, Tents.

Day 4

After an early start to see the magnificent sunrise oveevr the rock, we have time to fully appreciate the Aboriginal culture and spiritual meaning this area has to the traditional owners. Join our guided walk around the base of Uluru - climb.
Lunch at the cultural centre then make our way to the breath taking series of 36 domes that make up, Kata Tjuta / The Olga's. Continue north for a night spent at Kings Canyon Resort.

Day 5

King’s Canyon this morning you have a choice of 1hr or 4hr walk around the spectacular gorges and rugged valleys of this ancient land. Here you will also find a diverse range of rare plant and wildlife species. Later in the day we head south to our over night stop at the outback trading post of Kulgera.

Day 6

Head down the Explorer Highway, with short breaks at Marla and Cadney outback villages. Visit a traditional aboriginal community, at Indulkna. Overnight Glendambo. Accommodation Campground Swags, Tents.

Day 7

Travel south and see huge expanses of outback salt lakes, photograph red sand hill country. Head back along the western side of the Flinders Ranges. Lunch Pt Augusta.
Arrive In Adelaide late afternoon.
Minimum of 15 passengers, maximum 21 passengers.
Sleeping bags may be hired for $20.
